One Self – Children of Possibility
One of the latest releases of the london based electronic label ninja tune. DJ Vadim on an exerimental hip-hop flight, featuring the Swedish-Brazilian MC Yarah Bravo and American MC Blu Rum 13 as One Self. As a producers to straddle the divide between independent hip hop and more leftfield instrumental music Vadim formed this project to create an ethical mixture of words and sound.
This album is a perfect blend of electonical beats and very smooth raps. The contrast of Blu Rum’s gruff voice and Yarah’s sweet and easy words form a very unique style and a musical world of their own while DJ Vadim underlines this with a slow and sublte bass.
The twelve tracks on this master piece vary from slow and pure to very playful hip-hop events with a touch of Caribbean influence. Starting with the anthem Fear the Labor over the chilling summer sound of Bluebird up to the finishing Unfamiliar Places the album is open to different sytles an possiblities.
A real eyecatcher is also the case the cd comes delivered with. No plastic, no usual package, just a full cardboard box with an excellent artwork.
Like with almost every ninja tune album, you need to listen to Children of Possibility a few times until you can enjoy the full depth of the musical experience. But it’s worth the time.
